Go2 48 New Buses Ready to RollNew look 48 bus

Customers in Clifton will benefit from the first batch of new buses this year, as 11 new double deck buses start running on Go2 Navy service 48 between the City Centre, Meadows and Clifton from today (1 June 2009).

The new buses are the first of 22 buses to join NCT this year, as the Company continues to invest in the City’s bus network. These new buses, worth £3.45m follow on from the £19m investment in new buses in the past 5 years.

The new buses on the 48 will meet all the normal NCT specifications – low floor buggy friendly, wheelchair accessible, green and environmentally friendly, comfortable seats, modern design and a revised, brighter livery but they’ll also have some added extras!

  • Real-time equipment is being fitted to the buses which will track the buses as they run along the route and feed the actual departure times of the bus to the electronic displays at bus stops along the route, by text message and online at www.triptimes.co.uk
  • The buggy and wheelchair area will be much bigger on these new buses to meet customer demand, with more space for buggies and the ability to accommodate a wheelchair and pushchair on the same bus
  • New, leather-effect style seating will be fitted, with more leg room, for extra customer comfort
  • From the end of August, the 48 will also be running more frequently on Monday to Saturday daytimes – every 8 minutes – which gives an extra 10,000 seats every week from Clifton to the City!!

Commenting on these new buses, Nicola Tidy NCT Marketing and Communications Director said, “NCT has a very proud record of investing millions of pounds in modern, comfortable vehicles to provide an accessible network of services throughout Greater Nottingham. We have listened to our customer feedback when specifying these new buses and we’re confident our customers in Clifton will approve of the improved look, and also the improved frequency later in the year.”

Customers on service 1 will also get newer buses for the autumn to replace the old, stepped entrance vehicles currently running on the route between Nottingham, Clifton, East Leake and Loughborough.

The replacement of these buses will convert the NCT fleet to 100% buggy friendly and by the end of the year 85% of NCT buses will meet stringent safety requirements for the carriage of wheelchairs, well above the government’s 50% target by 2010.
