South Notts “The One” Takes to the Streets

The One in Market SquareOne of Nottingham’s oldest bus services has a new look and name from today, following the launch of 6 new buses onto the popular South Notts service between Nottingham and Loughborough.

“The One” is the new brand name for Service 1, which provides a bus every half hour between Nottingham, Clifton, Gotham, East Leake and Loughborough during the Monday to Saturday daytimes.

As part of the route upgrade, customers travelling on “The One” will benefit from:

  • A modern bus, with a much brighter and lighter interior
  • Special bays for pushchairs and wheelchairs
  • No entrance steps which makes getting on and off the bus the one logomuch easier for everyone
  • Added legroom and slightly more seats
  • CCTV for added customer safety and security
  • Travelling on buses with more environmentally friendly engines

Commenting on the route upgrade, David Astill NCT Commercial Manager stated, “Our improvements to The One are another example of Nottingham City Transport investing in the local bus network. These new buses will be well received by our loyal South Notts customers, who can now get on and off the bus much more easily, thanks to the low floor, step free entrance and special space for pushchairs and wheelchairs”.

To accompany the launch, a new South Notts Saver ticket has also been introduced, which at £15 allows customers to make unlimited journeys on “The One” at anytime, anywhere on the route for a week. This new weekly ticket reduces the price of a day’s travel on the bus to the equivalent of just £2.14 per day. The South Notts Saver ticket is available to buy from the bus driver.

With the launch of the new buses, Nottingham City Transport has now achieved a 100% fleet conversion to low floor buses, a year earlier than government targets for only half of the fleet to be low floor. 85% of NCT buses also meet the more stringent safety requirements to carry wheelchairs and bus orders for 2010 are being finalised, which will see these levels of accessibility increase further.
