£1.8m Investment in New Buses for Aspley and Strelley

9 brand new, high quality double deck buses hit the streets of Aspley and Strelley this morning, following a £1.8m investment by Nottingham City Transport.

The new buses on Go2 Turquoise Line 77, which links Strelley and Aspley with the City Centre up to every 8 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes, have several improved features:New 77 Bus

  • A much larger buggy and wheelchair area to meet customer demand, with more space for buggies
  • Space to accommodate a wheelchair and pushchair on the same bus
  • New, leather-effect style seating, with more leg room, for extra customer comfort
  • A stylish new floor, complimenting the leather-effect seating
  • A new, eye-catching turquoise and silver metallic paint exterior
  • Improved internal customer information, with route maps and service specific messaging to keep customers informed

The buses are fitted with CCTV as standard and like all new NCT buses introduced since 2007, have environmentally friendly, Euro 4 EGR engines, which allow exhaust gases to be recycled back into the engine to give lower nitrogen oxide emissions.

Scania EGR combines lower emissions with excellent operating economy and the system reduces emissions in all conditions, making them ideal engines for our network, where buses travel at low speed with frequent stops in urban areas.

Real-time equipment will be fitted by the end of the summer, which will track the buses as they run along the route and feed the actual departure times of the bus to the electronic displays at bus stops along the route, by text message and online at www.triptimes.co.uk.

Inside the bus, a new customer information display will also be launched, showing route progress on the internal display screens as well as a ‘News Ticker’.

Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Marketing Manager said, "Our £1.8m investment in new buses for route 77 demonstrates Nottingham City Transport's long-term commitment to the city by providing modern, fully accessible high quality buses for our customers. We continue to invest in the latest technologies to improve the overall journey experience for our customers, keeping our routes fresh and appealing to build further on the success we have enjoyed in growing passenger numbers over the last nine years."

Households along the route should look out for mailers coming through their doors in the next couple of weeks, inviting them to hop on board the new buses for a free trial.
