We’re launching on-bus stop announcements to the brand new buses on Go2 routes 77 to Strelley and 45 to Gedling in the autumn and we’re searching for the voice of our buses!
This innovative new system will announce the name of the next bus stop as the bus travels along the route as well as the final destination for the route and places of interest/important buildings at key stops. Stop announcements will be particularly beneficial to blind and partially sighted bus users as they travel around the network, as well as customers making journeys on new routes for the first time.
Initially, we’re seeking 2 voices – 1 for the 45 and 1 for the 77 – but we will be looking for more people next year as we roll out the system across more bus routes.
To enter, you need to:
A similar announcement system is very popular on Nottingham’s tram, helping people find their stop and advising people about connecting bus services. Many customers have requested improved stop announcement information on Nottingham City Transport’s buses, which this new system will deliver and is supported by printed on bus route maps.
In addition to audio announcements, half of the NCT bus fleet will be fitted with ‘actual vehicle location’ tracking equipment by the autumn which will give visual stop announcements on board the bus as well as feeding predicted bus arrival times to stops along the route.
Bus routes to benefit from this new system in 2010 will be:
Additional bus routes will be fitted with the ‘actual vehicle location’ equipment over the next couple of years, to give full network coverage on all 340 NCT buses.
Commenting on the search for a bus voice, Anthony Carver-Smith NCT Marketing Manager said,
“The launch of audio announcements on buses is part of an exciting package of improvements to customer information on NCT buses this year, costing £2m. With the roll out of this new system, customers will be able to find their way around the bus network more easily and be given reassurance about bus arrival times when they wait at the stop.”
