Description:
Actually an old textile factory building deep in Nottingham’s historic lace market, it was named after a pub that used to stand nearby which was so called in honour of the 19th century actor Edmund Kean. He once performed at the Theatre Royal, which stood on St Mary’s Gate next to the church of the same name at that time. It received CAMRA’s Pub of Excellence Award in 2009; it is star rated in CAMRA’s Good Food Guide and was runner up in Addlestones national Gastro Pub awards. It was also the first non-smoking real ale pub in Nottingham before the ban came in. Beside the five real ales on offer there are a choice of 35 single malt whiskies to choose from. The single room serves both bar and restaurant. Manager Charlie Blomeley is also the chef, and she comes up with some imaginative and high quality meals made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The Elizabeth King pork pies here are a must to try if you just want a bar snack!
