Description:
From the Southwell Road bus stop, turn right down Manvers Street and it is on the left. This classic street corner Victorian pub was closed for some years until revitalised by the current owners. It is a true free house, serving microbrewery beers from across Britain. On entering the main bar you are greeted by the full sight of seven handpumps, with seating and tables to the left and right. A slightly uneven floor leads to the separate rear lounge where the TV is only used for major sporting events. Both rooms are bedecked with quaint pictures, artefacts and memorabilia; there is a plethora of pewter mugs hanging above the bar and strategically placed old style domestic wall mirrors. The alternate black and cream coloured chairs gives an almost chess style feel to the interior. The cobs from Lizzie’s Tucker Shop are legendary - the Stilton is particularly recommended.
